If you have an existing database, with mission critical data there is no point in playing around with this ... It is very unlikely that Windows emulators will support the latest XP binaries. I am doubtful even commercial stuff like VMware is capable of doing such a thing. If your data is critical leave the well alone. Have a second box with Linux on it, get comfortable with it, install some SQL (I am no expert here. Know nothing except for postgres). If your transactions are voluminous, may even consider some thing like oracle (of which I know nothing), and then trans- fer the data later .... For now stick to XP ... your patients won't drive you into becoming a neurotic case yourself for loss of their data !! The good old saying "Leave the well alone" is still true.
