In /etc/X11/XF86Config file, change the modeline. 
It could be as follows --

Section "Screen"
    Driver "accel"
    Device      "ATI Mach64"
    Monitor     "Generic|High Frequency SVGA, 1024x768 at 70 Hz"
    DefaultColorDepth 16
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth       8
        Modes       "800x600" "640x400"
        ViewPort    0 0
    EndSubsection
EndSection
