you don't need to do all that ... at the prompt while booting into the linux CD itself you can type linux root=/dev/hdax single and it should boot the linux install on your hard disk... the rest of the instructions stay the same. |make modifications to your lilo.conf,reinstall it with /sbin/lilo -v |and reboot.
