it has something to do with hosts and lmhosts file rather on your win machine.

I have a peer to peer network of a linux and a windows 98 machine.
I'm able to run the ping command from each of them by giving the ip address
of the other.
I'm also able to run the ping command by providing the windows 98 machine's
name from the linux machine but not vice versa.
I'd appreciate if u could let me if what i'm trying is possible i.e. to
execute the ping command from the windows 98 machine by giving the name of
my linux server.
