This is more like the typical hindi film concept, where the Heorine or Hero's father says "This marriage is not acceptable". Cause they are stubborn and keep their eyes closed and just dont want to hear to what their children want to say. They are scared that , they might turn out to be iconoclasts, while the children who have seen the best of the first world - `love before marriage` want to see the best of the other world too , whcih is `love after marriage`.
