Have you tried  http://www.hklc.com/squidblock ? Pretty basic category
support from what I remember, but it's free :)

You could use a script to download tarballs from this URL:
http://www.hklc.com/squidblock/datafiles/squidblock.tgz 

This contains simple text files with regexs for banned sites, also
contains regexs for un-banning some of the legtimate sites that might
get banned by the banned list. For e.g. the regex "sex" is banned, but
this might also ban "msexcel", so that is inlcuded in the un-ban list.

All of this fits in neatly with squid.
