Hello All,

I just set up a transparent proxy using IPTABLES following the instructions
given in "Transparent Proxy with Linux and Squid mini-HOWTO". I did try both
DNATting to a remote squid proxy(in another network) and also installing squid
in the same box and "redirect"ing to the local squid. In both the cases, http
is working perfectly. But FTP and HTTPS are not. Well, the howto itself says
that you it can't do these things.

But I badly need to do these things. The reason is, in the concerned
network, there is no one to take care of the network or to go around and do the
changes in each browsers. One also can't instruct the users to do these changes
themselves. Whatever configurations that I can do is only through the dhcp
server.

Now, could anyone help me with some idea on how to set up a transparent
proxy kind of thing for https and ftp ? Or is there any other way I can do
these kind of things either using some dhcp options, etc ? I am just lazy and
don't want to go around doing things and I want to do these things from where I
am sitting.

    Kindly help me.

Thanks in advance,
regards,
Prasanna David

ps. When I have a local squid, it has to talk with the remote squid which would
be the local's "parent". I have set up all the "httpd_accel" options as
instructed in the howto.
