Steps: 1) Install SCSI card( if you have on board skip this step) 2) Connect the tape drive. Boot the system. 3) Check with dmesg whether it is detected. In most of the cases it will be at /dev/st0. 4) Mount tape. Go through `man mt`. 5) Use some backup command like tar to backup data. This _may_ help.
