Please check through your cron processes under /etc or in the
init scripts.  Wherever you find "updatedb",  just comment it 
out.This is necessary for your locate database, and is fairly
time consuming. If yours is a stand alone box, run "updatedb"
manually as root from time to time, so that your  locate com-
mand works with the latest database. About  once in a  day or
two is usually okay enough for a home user.
