Hi,

I have also suffered from this type of problem 6 times (installed redhat7.2). 
Only one time  i could read data from HDD when my data cable had been changed 
from primary to secondary ide slot. and 5 times i cuold not read data from 
HDD by any mean, i had to reinstallation.
