Used to love that, in those forgotten days when I was still working on
commercial Unixen (anyone remember Version7?).  The closest I've found
to the Writers' Workbench is the GNU Diction package.  There's an
[X]Emacs interface too that unfortunately, unlike flyspell, doesn't
work in real-time -- you must compose your document and then run it
through diction using diction-fl.el.
