Thanks Shridhar, but lpd is running at boot up. I get this error from lpd during boot up
cannot open lp device /dev/usb/lp0 No such device. Later on when I try to print, nothing happens until I pull the usb cable out and plug it in again, after which is starts printing normally. Another problem is that after the print job is over, the orange light (out of paper/ cartridge error) light starts blinking, I cant use the printer again until I press the switch on which the light is blinking. My parallel printer Panasonic KXp3696 132 column dot matrix connected to the parallel port is working normally.
