why not start with a basic installation, why advanced server.
get used to the intricasies of partitioning, and then partition them
according to your need especially if you are setting up an advanced server.
You will really need to plan.
you can use the following partitions apart from root ( /)
/boot
/home
/var
/usr
/tmp
google to understand them better so that u can determine their sizes, as per
ur need.
