Last one isn't working BTW..

Point is not let somebody else build. If on freeBSD I just do make build, it's 
no better than installing RPM. although I am sure there must be an option with 
with I can control all the parameter that autoconf supports for that package..

Same goes for gentoo.. LFS is bit too much if I have to install just one 
package compiled. Probably any base linux install+compiler should suffice in 
that case.

If I have time and resources I would give freeBSD a better try... It's there on 
my home PC but the PC isn't in current home anymore..;-(
