You'll need gtk-devel packages for gtk 1.2.x.  Do NOT get gtk 2.x  
Everybuddy hasn't been ported to 2.x yet.

That said, don't use everybuddy 0.4.3 either.  It will crash.  Get the
current CVS (pretty stable) tarball from
http://db.ilug-bom.org.in/Applications/everybuddy/
