yeah silo is much closer to grub than lilo.

i misread that the first time. I thought you were suggesting making a
backup of the installation to nfs mounted partition. That way i could tar
-cvjf the whole stuff off, getting around the local space limitations to
form the tbz2 as well as saving on the space requirement on the remote
box.

I can definitely mount an nfs partition but <sulking> it would'nt be as fast as a local
reiser disk </sulking>
