Sharninder, u have to put this entry int ur /etc/inittab file
~~:S:wait:/sbin/sulogin this line would ask for a password while anyone tries to login into single user mode (by default no password is asked). if u dont want any single user logins then replace the last part of the line (/sbin/sulogin) by anything (/bin/false). hope it helps. vineet > From: Suresh Ramasubramanian <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: Linux India Help <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: [LIH]Single User Mode > Date: 18 Jan 2003 20:54:54 +0530 > > On Saturday, January 18, 2003 6:30 PM [GMT+0530=IST], > Sharninder <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > >> restricted > >> password=master > >> > > > > this is not what i wanted ... anyone can bypass lilo by using their > > own copy of lilo from a floppy or something ... what i want is that > > even if someone knows the lilo password the kernel does'nt take the > > "single" parameter ... the kernel never goes to single user mode ... > > Dude, hasn't it occured to you that if somebody can boot in from a > floppy, he can load whatever kernel he likes onto that floppy as well, > and then mount whatever partitions he wants from there? > > There is no substitute for physical security. > > srs > > > ---- >
