Weird. Could you try downloading the latest boot floppis, or the woody
netinstall ISO and start the install from there? Get it from
http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/ and starting the install with teh 2.4x
kernel. Run a md5checksum at the end of the iso download to verify the image
