you need to configure firewall with iptables utility to open(nat) pop3 and smtp port (25 and 110).
go thru IPTABLES HOWTO.
if not get thru let me know.
will give you iptable script which will do above things.

this is because squid is an http/ftp proxy and not a pop3 proxy.
