Hi Ranjith, tar.gz is like a zip file. In Linux most of the times its source distribution. First untar the file using "tar -xvzf <file name>"
then go to the directory in which u untared it. You will find a README or INSTALL file in this directory. Follow the instructions and Enjoy....
