yu can play *.dat movies using xine video player. if yu wish to play a
vcd, then yu just need to click the "vcd" button on xine. if yu have a
dat file, then you will require to add it to your play list or open it
using the "MRL Browser". if it gives an error, add the .dat extension to
xine. to do that, open xine setup. a number of options will be
displayed. click on "mrl" tab, and under the heading "valid mrls ending
for mpeg deumxer" add "dat" and press ENTER. my settings have this -
mpg,mpeg,mpe,dat - under valid mrls ending for mpeg demuxer.
click close, and you'll be able to run dat files.
you may also try media player.
