HI Rajan,

As you know Squid proxy is for sharing internet, if
you trying to any Mail client for fetching mails
outside the world it will definetly won't work. For
that you have to use IPchains MASQUEDARING that is
NAT.
This is what I presume the problem is at your side.

For Internet : Open /etc/squid/squid.cf, define the
port through which it would be shared, save and close
the file, start the squid service again.

For allowing mail client to fetch the mails from
outside your local area do the following tast using
ipchains.

1) open the /etc/rc.local file
2) Insert :
a) IPCHAINS=ipchains
b) PATH="/sbin"
c) $IPCHAINS -F (To flush the default rule)
d) $IPCHAINS -A forward -s your network address" -d
0/0 (for any port and any site) -j MASQ

save and close the file.
3) restart the xinetd service to see whether the
following comes into effect. For checking that type
"IPCHAINS -L" to see the listing of ipchains at the
root prompt or if it doesn't come restart the PC.
After geeting into the root prompt type "IPCHAINS -L"
to see the ipchainse rule listing.
Once it is done check from one of the email client, I
hope it should def. work.

Cheers!!!
Sanjay
