The best way is to start with your backbone and work outwards. Assuming the whole thing is going to be Ethernet, get your backbone on Gigabit pipes. Sit with a floor plan of your office and decide on where to place devices, machines etc. Essentially, make sure that inter-switch connections are over Gigabit. Servers: The should all have redundant power supply and redundant NICs. I could write a book on this topic, so it is better you ask specific questions.
