Hello Harris,
I dont know about Red Hat 9.0 but under Mandrake 9.0 I have the PCI C-Media 8738 Card working perfectly well. I compiled the kernel (2.4.19-16mdk) to include support for the card and also enabled the Sound Server to startup under GNOME.

*************Kernel Compilation Snippet********************
Sound card support (CONFIG_SOUND) [Y/m/n/?]
BT878 audio dma (CONFIG_SOUND_BT878) [N/y/m/?]
C-Media PCI (CMI8338/8738) (CONFIG_SOUND_CMPCI) [Y/m/n/?]
Enable legacy FM (CONFIG_SOUND_CMPCI_FM) [N/y/?]
Enable legacy MPU-401 (CONFIG_SOUND_CMPCI_MIDI) [N/y/?]
Enable joystick (CONFIG_SOUND_CMPCI_JOYSTICK) [N/y/?]
Support CMI8738 based audio cards (CONFIG_SOUND_CMPCI_CM8738) [Y/n/?]
Inverse S/PDIF in for CMI8738 (CONFIG_SOUND_CMPCI_SPDIFINVERSE) [Y/n/?]
Enable S/PDIF loop for CMI8738 (CONFIG_SOUND_CMPCI_SPDIFLOOP) [Y/n/?]
Number of speakers 2, 4, 5, 6 (CONFIG_SOUND_CMPCI_SPEAKERS) [2]
********************************************************
BTW you dont need the Alsa Drivers if you use the above driver. Compile the sound card into the kernel and not as a module. Also the same thing worked for me under RedHat 8.0.

The sound card works fine in Elx, Knoppix, RH7.1..etc. But not in Mandrake 9.0. Kindly help me with a solution.

Thanx in Advance
