hi Finally, I figured out what is the problem. I thought I will write briefly the solution as well, so that it gets documented and somebody can use it in future.
To run the windows terminal services in app server mode (in which users can do rdesktop, not only admin), it requires that we also configure a license server on that m/c within 90 days. Since we didnt do that, after 90 days of working, it refused to allow users to login. So, by allowing only admin to log in through rdesktop, I get a quick workaround.
