Go to /usr/share/docs/postgres-7.x directory.
read the appropriate document.
with pgsql you need to initialize (initdb) database
cluster before you can create or use any database.
If you can't locate the documents then write to me. I
will send you the comands and there order of execution
to initialize pgsql.
Using webmin can be a good idea. It has a module for
postgres.
