Which file is modified (better say, patched) is shown while you patch the source tree. For details I think it only provides the lines of codes added or something similar. To know the differences without patching, you'd better see the changelogs by the person who released the patch :-p

I know what a patch file is... probably I did not word my query well... what I wanted is to know of a method for a neat and readable format for inspecting each line of code modification done with regards to the original file... not just the modified line but a clean way to see how it will impact the whole file (not just the lines)... which is possible if I have two trees and run kompare but i want to avoid having who full trees residing on my hard disk!
So as you see a change log is not of much use.
Thus, the query is for a tool/command which will help me for example inspect a whole function instead of knowing which line in which file is modified.
Thanks to all who replied....

PS: Is it just me or are more people on the list wording their emails with a slight touch of sarcasm off late.

way to do this without patching it to the kernel and then using a gui based diff front end such as kompare to see the modifications between the unpatched and patched kernel tree.
