Are you referring to mirroring just the user accounts or also the account data? If the latter, how do guarantee synchronization? Have
been considering MailSync/iSync...any thoughts?
mirroring just user accounts, for starters. Mirroring account data reliably involves other stuff (like, for example, one approach is to store the email in a database and get it replicated across different servers or clusters). Some pretty large clustered solutions (like InterMail from openwave.com) use this approach - but it is not the easiest way to go about it.
And the possibility/severity of that is no more than, say, a catchall account.
Which is a reason why we tend to discourage our clients from advertising that as a feature for their users.
Exactly the kind of setup we have for a client, except that the LDAP
database also holds the Unix and Samba account information. We are working on rolling out an AFS or Coda [or even Unison] based solution
which will also mirror user's data across sites so that they will roaming "profiles" over different locations. The locations are all within the NCR and people travel to different sites frequently.
If the locations are within the NCR you just might prefer to maintain the email centrally and use imap
