Hi, The Digium Card will very well work. But you need to do lot of ground work to implement that. Whats the size of your PBX system your are planning to have ?
For inter office connectivity across the globe, you can go for Mitel Products. Mitel 3340 ICP will be ideal for branch office communications via VPN.You will get a cleaner solution rather than going for Asterisk.
