Dear list, I have been suffering, like many others, with an internal modem, a winmodem. It is working, but the drivers are present only for kernel 2.4 (the modem is a PCTel HSP56 MicroModem). This prevents me from going to newer versions of distributions which (rightly) prefer kernel 2.6. Therefore, I'd like you to suggest what the cheapest solution might be to get a new modem.
Although the best thing would be to go for an external modem, would there be an even cheaper option, like a 2.6 friendly internal modem, easily available in India? I realize that this is a bad idea, but I really do want to save money on the modem and spend on augmenting some other feature (like RAM). Thank you.
