YES.. solved the problem. A combination of the above and
GTK+1.2-Theme-Switch as suggested by Thaths has helped solve the
problem. I prefer sans fonts, but replacing the font line in .gtkrc.mine
did not help. So, tried the GTK+1.2-Theme-Switch and noted the name of
the sans font which worked. Then replaced the font line with the chosen
font. That worked in the home setup, will try in the office PC next
week.
This looked and worked nicely -
