I say we go back to the times when it was a pain in the a** to get the
hardware to work in Linux ;) . I learnt quite a lot just by trying to
install linux on my machine the first time and not just about linux
but also about my machine. It was a real struggle but also delightful.
I even had to open up my machine to check which chipset was used by my
sound card . That was the first time I came to know about the
different slots in ones PC (ISA, PCI, AGP ...).  I had a ISA slot
sound card.

Yes you are right. Things are quite easy now a days. But it also means
lesser knowledge gained. I wonder if anybody uses shell commands any
more - the desktop users I mean.
