pppoe works perfectly under Debian.

Just install the package pppoe and pppoeconf and run the config utility
pppoeconf

And for your pleasure, if you are also using NetworkManager, you'll see an
entry for your PPPoE connection in NetworkManager and then you can manage
it from there.
