Hi All , I have a triple boot system (Win98, Debian 4.0, Ubuntu7.10) with 80GB HDD, 256 MB RAM.
I purchased a Sony DVD Writer today (technical name recognised in windows given above). I did not have any hope of this DVD RW being recognised in Win98. But when I booted into Debian, through the messages scrolling I could see the DVD RW message scrolling (/dev/hdc). When I put a Dual layer DVD into this drive , the DVD was not reading. ( mount /media/cdrom1 ---- no medium found ) Since it was not reading, I did not venture into burning a DVD with this. I googled for Drivers for this DVD Writer. All I got was the shopping details of this DVD Writer without any driver details. Same case in Ubuntu 7.10 also. I thought the linux distros being very recent, the DVD writer should work out of the box, but it did not. What is wrong ? Is there any hope of reading dual layer dvd's in linux with this drive ? Or should I consider Rs 1400 as gone down the drain? Any help is welcome.
