For any digicam to work as a webcam its hardware ( particularly bios )
should permit continuous streaming of video to the desired o/p.

Most cameras have different mode
1.  separate mode for record
2. separate mode for play.

if you manage to flash the bios to allow both at the same time it'll
work. Theoritically it should be feasible however it depends on the
camera hardware.

xaw etc are stage 2 where you feed the o/p from the camera to the
input usb of your laptop/desktop.

You can look if ppl  have already tweaked their cameras for concurrent play.
