the kernel help message in the make xconfig of slackware 4.0's 2.2.5
told me the NTFS read-only code is quite mature and you can use it
without fear but the write code (shown separated so people can choose
optionally) is not recommended because it is experimental and data
loss/anything bizarre can happen
