Debian GNU/Linux 'slink' ie. v2.1 comes on two binary CDs. There are
2200 binaries of different utilities/apps spread out across them, neatly
ordered into separate directories. One of my pals here wanted to
install Debian on his new 6 GB HDD, guess what...he went ahead and
installed all the packages in the 2 CDs and it took him four hours to
get everything configured. STOP! Do not do this, in the install screen
towards the beginning there is an option to install only the base system
with the most needed packages. Choose this option and the real beauty
of Debian is this, U get a fully functional, networking OS for as low as
28 MB.
Debian GNU/Linux 'potato' v2.2 will be 4 CDs full of binaries. So it
will take U 6 hours or more to install everything. Installing
everything is not is what is intended but everything is there for U in
one place.
Debian GNU/Linux is WoW and I would say, despite flame baits that it is
implemented with the goodness of both the Sys V and BSD Unices plus much
more. It is the distro to be with, now that both VA Research and SGI
are going to support it.
