Yes its your fault. Please set the name of file and place it in accordance
to /etc/lilo.conf file. My lilo.conf looks like

boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=5000
default=linux

image=/boot/bzImage  <-- See place file accordance to this and the lilo.
label=linux          --- if you have redhat then also place System.map in
read-only            --- /boot/   also. and you are done.
root=/dev/hda5
                        
other=/dev/hda1
label=dos
