You can use

'xwd' to capture windows in Linux

Go Through man xwd

You can also use ksnapshot which comes with KDE which has 
a GUI & you can save in different formats.(GIF , JPEG , BMP)

The simplest way to use xwd is

xwd -o filename
The mouse turns into an X and you click on the window.
The contents will be written to file 'filename' <your choice>

The file can be viewed with 
display filename
