[LI] cant uninstall rpm packages

I have RH6.1 with upgarded kenel to 2.2.13.
I am not able to uninstall or query all the packages.
when i try to do 
rpm -q kaffe
it says 
rpm : virtual memory exhausted:Cannot allocate memory

rpm -q -a doesnt give any output

where i am goin wrong ?
