Hi Folks, I just don't know where to start ;-) I was able to install *ggi* and run it successfully with the least hassles. No manual editing of files , no configuration, no XF86Config file. Wow ! that was the easiest X I ever configured. ;-) Thanks to Shanu who woke me up while I was sleeping and reminded me of GGI. Thanks Shanu Buddy !! ;-) Anyway this is the procedure I adopted to get up XGGI up and running. 1. First compiled the kernel with FBdev support ( Rh6.1 comes with FBdev built in by default ) and then added the line vga=791 ( for 1024x768 16-Bit resolution ) in /etc/lilo.conf 2. Downloaded the XGGI server ( this is a debian package , you must be able to get this from ftp://ftp.ggi-project.com ) 3. Downloaded the target libaries ( I had to download libggi-target-fbdev as me was using fbcon ) 4. Download the libggi2 libraries ( should be greater than 0.6) 5. Download the libgii0 libraries ( - do - ) 6. Change the X link to point to XGGI and then run startx ( I get a 1024x768 16-Bit resolution ) Advantages of GGI: 1. Acceleration 2. Does not need a XF86Config file 3. Multi-headed Display ( I might be wrong here ) Disadvantages: 1. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace is disabled by default 2. cannot start in background ( something like startx & ) 3. Gdm and xdm will not work ( I hope even kdm ;-( For more information on GGI check out http;//www.ggi-project.com Happy hacking ...................... ;-) Regards Khader ---------------------------------- @}-------- Syed Khader Vali Debian 2.2.1 ( potato ) [EMAIL PROTECTED] Kernel 2.3.34 # 91-80-5262355 Extn:2527 -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Linux India Mailing List Archives are now available.
