>Anyone know what this is?

Hi

Mostly, it happens with isdn modems. If you are just getting these messages
while starting up of pppd, then there should be no problem as it may be the
case where the peer offers a protocol which pppd doesn't understand. But if
you are getting it continuously then it may be one of the following.
1. If characters are getting corrupted on the way to the peer
2. If your system is inserting extra characters into the transmit data
stream, the
peer may send protocol-reject messages to you, resulting in the above
message (since your pppd also doesn't recognize the protocol number)
