If I get you correctly; you're typing the executable name only
at the
prompt. Redhat (and many others) does not search the current
directory "."
by default (...slakware does..at least up to slak 4.0)!!
Try typing "./filename" - I had that problem when I migrated
to redhat 6.1
from slakware. I assume that your test program is a simple
block like
"hello world" so you need not link or use "make".
