I think kmod is having trouble finding the right module to use! Try
loading the ne.o modules from the command prompt and see whether the
device is registered. The output should be something like this...

root# modprobe ne
ne2k-pci.c: PCI NE2000 clone 'RealTek RTL-8029' at I/O 0xd400, IRQ 12.
eth0: RealTek RTL-8029 found at 0xd400, IRQ 12, 00:40:33:53:8B:5A.

NOTE: This is for an ne200 PCI card.
BTW:Is ur card NE2000/ISA ?
