I have an Ericsson SH888, and communicating through the
serial cabel used to work with SuSE 6.3 and irtty/irda/...
(my laptop does not have IR interface)
As of kernel 2.2.14, irda did not work with irtty.
(major changes in IRDA ircomm-tty/ircomm_tty,...)
Reading all the old postings on the IRDA mailling list
confirms that using IRDA/irtty with SH888 over the serial cabel
does not work, and no solution seems ever to have been posted.
The solution is to use the *irport* driver.
This works with kernels 2.2.16-2.2.18 (I haven't testet with 2.4.x).
