I don't know, whether this helps, but there is a set of utilities called
ir_utils.zip on

the utilities produce the following results on a vaio737:
"findchip.exe" tells me I have a SMC FDC37N958FR
"whichrx.exe" tells me I have a Temic/IBM-transceiver (NOT Vishay Telefunken, NOT
HP/Sharp)
"postfir.exe" says that SONY messed up the DMA (nothing new, the DMA number is wrong
as stated
in the driver for Sony PCG-505TX)
