If you will be able to use Kernel 2.2 depends on your current distribution.
I cant remember exactly what changed but most problems come up
with network apps namely (dhcp, bootp and essential tools like ifconfig etc)
You should sooner or later switch to 2.2 or 2.4 (When its out) as the
2.0 series will be no longer supported, AFAIK 2.0.38 was the last
kernel. The 2.2 kernels also provider a much better performance as the
2.3 do.
Probably you should just get yourself the current 2.2 kernel tarball
and try your luck.
