Hi Dag,
the hardware survey looks very nice. It might be useful to set a
link to chapter 7 of the IR-HOWTO:
"Obtaining Information about the Infrared Port in Laptops"

It seems not an easy task to get the right information about the
FIR controller used in a notebook. Therefore I have collected this
information with help from this mailing list.
I would like the members of the list to have a look at it again,
maybe some new ideas will arise. I think it's very important
to get a survey of the different controllers which are in use.
