I just tried patch-2.3.22-irda2 (on 2.3.22). No problems compiling, but
I had some serious stability problems. Not sure how much of it is IrDA
related.

Since irmanager isn't used anymore, I modified /etc/modules.conf to
include (is this the correct way to do things now?):
  options irport io=0x02f8 irq=3
  above irda irport
  alias irda0 irda

Then I tried "ifconfig irda0 up". Result: instant reboot.

Well, next time I was more careful, and loaded the modules using modprobe
first. The modules loaded and /proc/net/irda/ looked OK. Then I tried
"ifconfig". Result: "Segmentation fault" [got an idea while writing this:
Maybe I need to recompile net-utils with the new 2.3.22-irda2headers?]
Feeling brave, I then tried "modprobe -r irda". Result: Total lockup.

The third time I thought I should try logging something :-) So I set up
syslog to send everything to another machine on the network. While doing
this, the laptop locked up again. This time without any IrDA at all...

Conclusion: I will stay with 2.2.12. I know I should have offered some
help finding the bugs in 2.3.22, but I don't feel competent to do this.
Maybe I just chose some options I shouldn't have...
