Hi!

I have been using Linux-IrDA with an external dongle for quite some time
with my ASUS L7300 laptop, but I have never been able to use the internal
IR-port. I decided to investigate the problem a little yesterday. The
IR-controller is on a Winbond 83877 (Super IO) which shall handle SIR and
FIR. Since this must be a fairly common chip (I known a lot of older
ASUS-MBs has this controller. Newer ASUS-MBs has 83977 which is very
similar) I would like to know if anyone has got it working in SIR-mode?

In the BIOS setup-util I have set it as SIR 2f8 irq 3. Linux's
serial-controller detects it as an 8250 UART. This seems strange to me.
Could this be because the BIOS has left the UART (which is in
extended-UART-mode when used as IR-controller) in a way where it does not
look as a standard UART? If this is the only problem it should be quite easy
to fix this!
